HOTELS OF ROME Hotels of Rome are organized in five categories, from 5 to 1 star, we have organized them in the following geographical areas: In the vicinity of the City Walls Outside of Rome (in suburbs and countryside)
WITHIN THE CITY WALLS The Walls of Rome were built in the 4TH Century AD for the defense of the city. Rome0s ancient city walls today include an area of the city center which has been always inhabited. Most of the popular sites can be found within the city walls with the exception of the Vatican, the neighborhood called "Trastevere" and the Catacombs (all outside the ancient city.) Staying in this area means in most of the cases to be at only a walking distance from the most popular sites. IN THE VICINITY OF THE CITY WALLS The modern city of Rome extends beyond the ancient city walls. This section includes the hotels that can be found in the vicinity of the round of defensive walls of the city. In most cases one can still walk to some of the sites and - in general - reach them by a short bus or taxi ride. Note that the area of the Vatican is outside the ancient round of walls but this could be an excellent location as by crossing any of the local bridges one can easily get to the heart of the historical center. SUBURBS AND COUNTRYSIDE The hotels listed in this section can be found in the outskirt of the city with some exception for those located a little further out. In this case a bus or metro-train, taxi or a car are necessary to reach the historical city center.
