Itinerary #1: The Jewish ghetto and the Roman Forum (4 hrs)

Highlights: Colosseum (outside only), Roman Forum (Arch of Titus), Theatre of Marcellus (outside only), Piazza Mattei, Jewish Ghetto, Via del Portico d’Ottavia, Piazza delle Cinque Scole, Jewish Temple (outside only), Tiber Island (Temple of the Young), Trastevere.

Not far from the Synagogue is Trastevere, the area where the Jewish community lived from Roman times until the Renaissance. This is one of the most picturesque quarters in all of Rome, with its narrow streets and many artisans. This area is also known for its many excellent small restaurants and an active night life. Here, on occasion, is possible to access the most ancient Synagogue of Rome, dating from ancient Roman times, which is located under street level, today underneath a local restaurant on Vicolo dell’Atleta.

Note: Your admission ticket into the Forum has a validity of two days. You can use the same ticket to enter the Colosseum without standing in line. Upon request, we can include in the itinerary a visit of the inside of the Colosseum at no additional cost.


Itinerary #2: The Jewish ghetto (2 hrs)

Highlights: The Jewish Ghetto – a stroll through the alleys of the Jewish area discovering the traditions and the history of the Roman Jewish community. Tiber Island, the Temple of the Young. Trastevere, and the site of the most ancient Synagogue of Rome (in Vicolo dell’Atleta)

THE TEMPLE AND JEWISH MUSEUM
Tours of the inside of the main Synagogue of Rome and the Jewish Museum are provided only by the office of the Jewish Community of Rome and can be seen on a separate visit. At the end of our tour you can join a group tour to visit these sites with an official guide from Rome's Jewish Community.

During the tour if you want we can try some of the specialities of the traditional Roman Jewish bakery in the ghetto. For lunch you can eat at one of the many Roman Jewish (and Kosher) restaurants.

Itinerary #3: Full day Jewish Rome (6 hrs)
Duration and costs:
6 hours with our guide + 2 hours with guide from the Temple + lunch break

Additional costs: Euro 10 per person to join a group tour of the Temple and Jewish museum (to be paid directly at the Temple's ticket office.)

afternoon itinerary:
– Tiber Island
– Visit the site of the ancient synagogue in Trastevere
– Rose Garden on the Aventine hill, once location of the Jewish cemetery
