MUSIC IN BERNINI'S ROME
Church of St. Agnes in Agone (Piazza Navona, Rome)

: Church of Sant’Agnese in Agone, Piazza Navona (Rome)
The church was built in 17th century. It is considered the jewel of Baroque architecture, and was designed by the major architects of that time: Rainaldi, Borromini and Bernini, who was also the designer of the notable Fountain of the Four Rivers, located in front of the church.

Itinerary: The Itinerary 'Music in Bernini's Rome' will make you admire the numerous masterpieces of the site: the architecture of the church itself, Bernini’s sculptures, the frescoed tambour. A live music performance will take place with pieces from the greatest composers of that time: Girolamo Frescobaldi, Claudio Monteverdi, Giulio Caccini, Lelio Colista, Andrea Falconiero… The musicians will perform using the same musical instruments of the Baroque age. This, together with the singing and the studied sound ambience, will make you immerse yourself in the artistic climate of a unique era, fulfilling the sight of the superb works of art with the pleasure springing from music.

SOUNDS AND VISIONS OF CARAVAGGIO

Michelangelo Merisi, known as ‘Caravaggio’ (1610-2010), is the most representative artist of Roman Baroque. In Doria Pamphilj Palace some of his most important paintings are exhibited, such as ‘Maddalena penitente’ (The Penitent Magdalene) and ‘Fuga in Egitto’ (The Flight into Egypt - detail on the left). The Gallery also hosts a huge collection of paintings, sculptures and art works by worldwide renowned artists such asRaffaello, Tiziano, Bernini, Velazquez and many more.


Itinerary: The itinerary ‘Sounds and Visions of Caravaggio’ includes a guided tour in Doria Pamphilj Palace, one of the most prestigious Ancient Art Galleries in Rome, and an enthralling live performance in the superb ‘Sala del Trono’ (throne room). The musicians will perform playing the same instruments of Caravaggio age, which are also present in many paintings by the Artist.

Guided tour with live Renaissance music

The itinerary
Villa Farnesina, a masterpiece of Renaissance architecture, contains some of the most important frescoes realized by Raphael in Rome. The visit of such in the splendid rooms, is led by an art historian and accompanied by music performed live with precious ancient instruments. The tour ends with a concert in an exclusive room of the Villa Farnesina.

The design of this building is due to the rich banker Agostino Chigi, an expert of art. The architecture is by Baldassarre Peruzzi. The frescoes,magnificent and amazing, are owe to the genius of Raphael and Sebastiano del Piombo, whom together with Sodoma (Giovanni Antonio Bazzi) and with the same Peruzzi created in the various Lodges of the Villa some masterpieces of art, each one dedicated to mythological subjects: Cupid and Psyche, Galatea, Polyphemus, Hercules, the Feast of the Gods, and many other things to discover.
The visit is developed in the splendid environment of the Villa, accompanied by live performances of Renaissance music on rare instruments. The sound enhances and promotes the understanding of works of art, giving visitors an exciting experience, dipping thme in the middle of the refined aesthetics of the Roman Renaissence.
The final concert offers works by some of the greatest composers and artists of the time: Galilei, Barbetta, Mudarra, Praetorius, Ortiz.
